Our Story

AquaStars Swim & Training Academy is a privately owned, family-run swim school that was established in 2016 at Ladybridge High School in Bolton. Starting with just 20 members and providing 1.5 hours of instruction every Saturday, our programme quickly expanded to include additional hours. Presently, AquaStars offers swimming lessons in Bolton not only on Saturday mornings but also on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings, reflecting the growing demand for our services.

Our lessons are open to children from as young as 3 years old, and we pride ourselves on maintaining small class sizes to ensure individual attention and effective learning. For beginners up to stage 3, our swimming instructors take a hands-on approach by being in the water, providing support and guidance. This commitment to personalised and water-based coaching contributes to the development of essential swimming skills in a safe and enjoyable environment.

I grew up in a family of swimmers and can’t even remember learning how to swim! At the age of 15 I became a national breaststroker and also swam at the England college’s representing Pendleton College. Once I started working, I gained my NPLQ (Lifeguard) and Level 1 & 2 swimming teaching qualifications which lead me on to work for a variety of companies and council run organisations allowing me to gain experience in both the private and public sectors. In 2016 I was part way through university completing my Paediatric Nursing degree and, with the help of Julie (our lead teacher) I decided to open my own swim school…AquaStars! I love teaching children how to swim. Seeing them progress each week from being beginners in armbands, to finally being able to swim independently learning the skills and techniques that allow them to become confident, competent swimmers and most importantly be safe in the water is so rewarding.

I first started teaching swimming at the age of 17. I gained Teaching qualifications in Swimming Teaching, Life-saving, Synchronised Swimming, Disability and Parent & Child swimming. During my career I have taught my 5 children to swim. 3 have since swam nationally/internationally and my youngest currently swims at national level in Synchronised Swimming. Personally I enjoy Open Water Swimming, which I have medalled at North-West county level. My belief is passion for swimming passes to the children I teach and encourages their skills and confidence. Also, I believe if pupils enjoy their lesson they will continue to swim throughout life whether it be holiday, speed swimming, water polo or synchro, whilst providing a life-saving skill and promoting good health.
